the early spring blooms
I can feel spring in the air here in Petone. The last few days have been calm and sunny. Every year when spring comes and my mood is lifted, I realise how much the weather can affect my state of mind. I have had my low season and am now ready to embrace life in its greatness this spring and summer.
Spring is nature’s way of telling you everything shall get brighter and better.
Since it was Friday and the sun was high in the clear blue sky, I wanted to get some sushi for lunch. I have been working from home for the whole week and admittedly have been a hermit crab. I felt pretty low in energy this week so I just needed some space to process all the feelings that were weighing me down. But I thought today was too nice to stay inside.
The sushi place happens to be right next to a florist. All the pretty blooms caught my attention so I couldn’t help but went inside to have a browse. There, I saw the prettiest buttery pink tulips. It was love at the first sight. Even then I didn’t get them right away. I couldn’t decide how many stems I should get and what I would put them in. Always an over-thinker.
When I got home, I found this clear pink glass vase lying empty and instantly knew this was it. I hurried back to the shop. Half of them were already put in a bouquet. I could have missed them all. That was a close call. I picked my stems, even bought the vase with me to see them together, and was pleased with my vision. I walked home with my tulips feeling like the happiest girl in the world.
Apparently, tulips continue to grow in water. I was told by the florist lady, and can confirm that after googling ‘how to make tulips last longer’. They smell the most delightful and subtly sweet.
Nothing can beat ending the week on a sweet note.
